The Battanian Oathsworn are one of my all-time favourite infantry units, and as a seasoned Bannerlord player, I have experimented with a variety of infantry units for numerous hours. These elite soldiers are highly trained and outfitted, making them a powerful force on the battlefield.

In my experience a large number of high quality archers are the absolute best defense you can have, yeah. I think you'll want to look at the weapons your infantry/cavalry use, shields are good for attacking the walls but I personally feel like strong two-handed weapons are great for pushing back enemies trying to scale the walls.This one depends on your playstyle. Here is my example for godlike, infantry only bannerlord. There are little essential perks like throwing 175 - Throwing Competitions, but in long run you are rich enough.
