As I understand it, the pair valve is something Honda put on the bike because of the emmissions laws (something about diluting the exhaust gas). It allows more air into the bike than you really need/want, and is not good for getting the bike running well. Also the VTX air fuel mixture is set "lean" by the factory, so that doesn't help either.

Never realized yours was a 2003 :hmm2:....I believe you can just remove the pump and run a line from the petcock to the carb...But you'll have to shut the fuel off everytime you stop, and turn it back on again to ride...Otherwise the fuel will keep flowing to the carb and overfill the ..., Add fresh fluid. reinstall cap. Now, have a box end wrench on the bleeder valve. Squeeeze the brake handle and loosen the bleeder. Oil should come out. Tighten the bleeder BEFORE you release the brake!!!
