Jd 530 baler specs

I have a 535 JD round baler. can't seem to change the adjustment on the tensioner. old one was frozen up. Replaced it ($300) but steal no matter where I set the adjustment the bales won’t get any denser. The gauge is showing all the way lite. If I push down on the hydraulic leaver to close the gate the gauge shows a denser bale.

I agree with Mark pressure should be around a 1000 psi when gate is closed then increase while hay is being fed into baler. Pressure on gauge while baling will be determined by how many turns hyd pressure control valve is turned in. 4000 psi is maximum pressure of gauge listed in parts specifications.
