Overall Battania sucks right now aside from Fians and the volunteers with the crazy mallets, really, but Fians are insane as a ranged unit and ranged units are arguably the best or at least easiest thing to consistently win against greater numbers with and have few casualties currently. .

PS: I play as bannerlord dificulty. The main thing that'll reduce shield infantry casualties for any faction is telling your shieldwall to hold fire for the approach. That way, they never lower their shields to throw javs. This is especially important against crossbows which pack quite a punch per shot. Battania’s army features medium-to-heavy spear infantry with strong bows as ranged support. Their cavalry is weak, generally only suited to skirmish harassment or fending off enemy cavalry.
