What no one has mentioned yet is the tech upgrades you get from derelict freighter missions are class locked by system. What that means is if you do a derelict freighter mission in a system and you get a B-class tech upgrade, while it's random which tech upgrade you'll get (i.e. fuel efficiency, hyperdrive, combat, exploration, mining, trading), you'll only ever see them as B-class.
