Jun 18, 2015 · It was my assumption that this is the same powder used in the factory LeverRevolution loads for 44 mag and 45/70 since the names and artwork are the same. As the 45-70 has more brass length than we generally need with short boolits you can consider cutting the brass shorter to accomidate the fat nosed boolits for the new 1886 rifles. I have the light weight and the 26" octagon so I have brass segregated to those rifles.

When loading for the 'newer' style barrels (Sharps and Winchesters), bullet diameter to fit the bore is critical, as well as loading the powder charges to get custom accuracy from each individual weapon. I have found that IMR or H-4198 & 2400 gave me the velocity (1200 to1400 fps) & accuracy needed for anything within the range of uses the cartridge has whether hunting or target work. You need a powder that fills the entire case while providing safe pressure, the right burn rate, and best velocities. That is Reloader 7 for 300gr up through 500gr bullets.
