Have two VE TDI's with race pipes. A common theme is loss of mpg's & longer warm up times associated with the EGR delete. My first hand experience with running these cars in the north east is that this is a misconception. I personally experienced a 5mpg drop in overall winter FE and more for strictly around town.

You disconnect the hoses from the filter and run your car >2k rpm using only the product from the can. You may run into other issues with running bio. From reading, VW does not approve of 100% bio use. It apparently dilutes the oil and causes issues with the internals.
